Ruotker's Whiskey

Whiskey has been distilled in Riegersburg since 2003, and bottled under this name since 2016. The core bottlings are named ALOIS I., RUEDIGER II., and WILHELM III. RUEDIGER II. leans towards bourbon, with new wood, toasting, and vanilla. WILHELM III. represents the other side of the spectrum with peaty notes. ALOIS I. matures for a good twelve months in old plum brandy casks from Alois Gölles, taking on its fruitiness. In addition, there are a small number of single casks, such as 100% RYE at 51.2 percent.

Ron Johan Rum

Sugarcane molasses from South and Central America and the Caribbean, fermented and double-distilled in Styria. White and Overproof remain in stainless steel tanks, hence no color and no wood. Dark, Strong, and Old Plum mature in American white oak and ex-bourbon casks; Old Plum is then aged for a year in an old plum brandy cask from Alois Gölles. Serie Null contains no added sugar and is made from certified organic molasses. The name connects the Caribbean raw material with Archduke Johann, the modernizer who loved Styria.

Hands On Organic Gin

Five botanicals, infused in specially produced white rum. Lemongrass and juniper at the forefront, followed by green coriander. David Gölles on the idea: "With many gins, it has always bothered me that among often more than thirty ingredients, I only consciously perceived a handful." Certified organic.

Two places, one signature

The stills are in the distillery. Copper, double distillation, no additives. What happens afterwards happens in Lembach, a few minutes away. That is where the barrels are stored, where the lounge is, and where over 650 high-proof rarities line the shelves.
This separation is no formality. Distilling takes place where it has been since 1979. Aging takes place in-house. Some barrels previously held Alois Gölles' spirits for years and continue to impart what they have absorbed.

Gebrannt wird in der Manufaktur Gölles in Riegersburg, gereift wird im house of whiskey, gin & rum in Lembach, wenige Minuten entfernt. Im house wird nicht destilliert, dort lagern und reifen die Fässer.

Was unterscheidet DAVID GÖLLES von der Manufaktur Gölles?

Die Manufaktur gibt es seit 1979, Obstbrand und Essig sind ihr Kern, 1984 kam der erste Apfel Balsamessig dazu. Das house gibt es seit 2016 und arbeitet mit Getreide, Melasse und Botanicals. Gleiche Ansprüche, eigene Bühne.

Kann man das house besuchen?

Ja. Lembach 16, 8333 Riegersburg, Dienstag bis Samstag von 10:00 bis 18:30 Uhr. Verkostungen in der Lounge sind während der Öffnungszeiten möglich, Führungen gegen Voranmeldung, 14,70 Euro pro Person.

Gibt es kleine Flaschen zum Probieren?

Die meisten Abfüllungen gibt es auch in 50 ml. Dazu die Sets Best of Whiskey mit drei und Best of Rum mit vier Miniaturen.

Woher kommen die Namen Ruotkers, Ron Johan und Hands On?

Ruotkers kommt von der Burg über dem Haus: Die Riegersburg wurde 1138 erstmals urkundlich erwähnt, als Ruotkerspurch, Burg des Rüdigers. Bei Ron Johan steht Ron für den karibischen Rohstoff und Johan für Erzherzog Johann von Österreich, 1782 bis 1859, den Modernisierer, der die Steiermark liebte. Hands On steht für das Prinzip weniger ist mehr: fünf Botanicals statt dreißig.
